Recipe of the Month

Mexican Barbacoa

Our Recipe of the Month is for Mexican Barbacoa. Succulent, slow-cooked beef, marinated in a fragrant blend of spices. Warm masa harina tortillas filled with barbacoa are a classic dish that will leave you yearning for more.

CD of the Month

Our International Music CD for the Month selection is Dindin by Kimi Djabate. Hailing from the country of Guinea-Bissau, gifted guitarist, percussionist and balafón (African xylophone) player Kimi Djabaté is one of Africa's most exceptional talents.

Book of the Month

This month's Book of the Month recommendation is "The Covenant of Water" by Abraham Verghese. The novel is set in Kerala, India, which I found to be one of the most anthropologically and historically interesting places I have ever had the fortune to visit. Kerala's politics are mostly communist, but it is also home to the oldest synagogue in Asia and the last remnants of what is known as the "Syrian" or "St. Thomas" Catholic Church. Moreover, the region is inhabited by a significant Hindu and Muslim population. Kerala is a place of tremendous diversity, remarkable cross-cultural accommodation ensuring ongoing peace.
